It is not uncommon to see people rubbing their dog’s nose in the accident when they have an accident in the house.

However, when you rub a dog’s nose in her own mess, they often see no association between that and having a potty accident. Neither does rubbing their nose in the accident teach the dog not to potty in the house again.

Vets tell us that rubbing her nose in the accident teaches them that humans are dangerous and unpredictable and they will likely begin to hide in safety and sneak into another room to go to the bathroom, thus making housebreaking even more difficult.
